Heavily-armed police are negotiating with a man after he barricaded himself inside a home in Melbourne‘s northeast. 

Up to 20 officers from the critical response unit set up camp outside a home on Liberty Parade in Heidelburg West on Tuesday morning. 

It’s understood the man barricaded himself inside a home at 7.20am. 

Negotiations with the man are ongoing. 

The public have been told to stay away from the home. 

Police say there are no ongoing threats to the community.
